FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Questions about our practice? See here for FAQs or contact information to answer more specific inquiries.

When do I need a referral?

To access a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP), you must see a GP (or psychiatrist/paediatrician in some cases) who will assess your support needs and draft a Mental Health Care Plan (or Mental Health Treatment Plan)

You can book a direct appointment with a psychologist, without needing a referral, if you’re paying entirely out-of-pocket or using private health insurance. This gives you full control over who you see and when.

We offer the option to book a 30-minute meet-and-greet session at a reduced fee. This gives you a chance to meet your practitioner, ask questions, and get a feel for whether they’re the right fit for you.

A Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) is a document your GP creates to help you access mental health support through Medicare. It outlines your needs, treatment goals, and referral to a psychologist.

Under Medicare’s Better Access program, you can claim a rebate for up to 10 sessions with a psychologist per calendar year.

While this support is valuable, for many people, especially those working through complex or long-term challenges such as trauma, 10 sessions a year is often not enough to make consistent progress.

Therapy works best when there is regular and steady support. For most people, this means attending weekly or fortnightly sessions, at least for a period of time. This allows time to build trust, develop skills, and work towards healing at a pace that best suits you.

Payment is due in full at the beginning of each session, using the clinic’s EFTPOS facilities.  For your convenience, HICAPS and Medicare Easy claim facilities are available to allow you to claim your Medicare or private health insurance rebates at the time of payment.

At Logos Psychology Clinic, we support a wide range of clients with different needs and backgrounds. This includes:

  • NDIS participants
  • WorkSafe clients
  • VOCAT funded clients
  • Individuals seeking support privately or through Medicare.
  • Clients referred by GPs or specialists

Our team is experienced in tailoring care to each person’s unique circumstances, ensuring you feel supported every step of the way.

If you haven’t returned your Client Intake and Informed Consent forms to the clinic before your first appointment, please bring these with you.

If you are claiming a Medicare rebate, please bring your valid GP referral to your first session.

If your fees are being covered by a third party, please bring details and verification of your third-party provider.

For new clients, we recommend starting with one session per week over three weeks. This gives your practitioner the chance to get to know you, understand your background and history, and begin creating a therapeutic plan that’s right for you.

Your first session will typically involve discussion of your history and current issues of concern so that your treating practitioner can develop an intervention plan with you.
